Yeti Tool helps design and technology studies at Clevedon School

“This CNC machine will help us take our GSCE and A-level projects to the next level.”

It has been an exciting time at Clevedon School recently as Yeti Tool gave them a free SmartBench to use and the Head of Design and Technology said: “This CNC machine is helping us take our GCSE [General Certificate of Secondary Education – General Certificate of Secondary Education] and A-level projects to a new level.”

With a number of Yeti Tool staff having once attended Clevedon School, the company has links to the school and wanted to give something back to the education center community.

By giving Clevedon School a SmartBench CNC machine, students can now experience CNC technology in a whole new way, as Ben Turner, Head of DT, commented:

“Having taught for over 20 years, I have used CNC milling machines, lathes, CNC plasma cutters, laser cutters, 3D printers and other such things. It's been amazing to see how technology has evolved.”

"What motivates DT teachers to use CNC machines is that the national curriculum refers to and directly uses CNC equipment."

Using SmartBench in schools gives students many advantages in the field of design and technology because it is easy to use and produces incredible results.

“CNC machines help students in understanding the scale and variety of projects in the classroom, in terms of practical results and the speed of modeling prototypes. The CNC bench in the classroom is a complete classroom changer,” added Ben.

"Students choose my subject only because they like practical results and making things. The automatic CNC equipment amazes them tremendously.”

As a result, opportunities for students and DT teachers at Clevedon School have increased enormously, as Ben noted:

“The SmartBench CNC machine helps us increase our GCSE and A-level projects.”

“SmartBench is a really good machine for learning: it's easy to set up, has an intuitive control system, the initial software is user-friendly, students can use the control panel without problems, and it's a visually attractive device that students love to see.”

The Yeti Tool has also been helpful in providing additional support, including highlighting online resources available to teachers and students.

“Yeti Tool's tools, resources and CNC Academy are absolutely amazing and it's fantastic to see the engineering team explain it all in an understandable way. My team and I use it a lot: we can just click on it and look at it when we want to,” Ben concluded.
