Optics - Lenses and their characteristics

LENSES

The lens is one of the most important elements of a laser optical system. Directing the laser beam through the mirrors to the laser cutting head is only half the battle, and a wide laser beam would not be of much help to us in its current state. To increase the energy density of a laser beam, we need to guide the laser beam through a focusing lens, which allows it to be concentrated and to increase the energy density through it. To get the sweetest point on the laser beam, it is necessary to set the distance of the lens from the surface of the material to the corresponding distance. The latter is called the focus height.

The lenses are available in different sizes and focal heights - for more detailed information we prepared the following picture, which summarizes the properties of different lenses. You can also buy different lenses from us. You can find a selection of lenses on our accessories page - https://lasermeister.ee/lisavarustus/

Lenses and their characteristics

As the role of the lens is extremely important, the cleanliness of the lens is also important. We recommend checking the cleanliness of the lens at least once a week, but a light check before each working day would not hurt either.
The following steps are required to clean the lens:

  1. Remove the compressed air pipe from the compressed air connection
  2. Remove the lens tube from the shaving head
  3. Remove the lens by unscrewing the lens retaining ring
  4. Clean the lens using special optical cleaning cloths. The surface of the lens should not be touched with your fingers and should be kept on the cleaning cloths. If necessary, hold the edges of the lens while cleaning. The lens should be cleaned on both sides by moving the cleaning cloths in an S-shape along the surface of the lens from top to bottom.
  5. Replace the lens with the convex side facing the mirror and tighten the lens retaining ring. Do not overtighten the lens retaining ring, as this may damage the lens.
